Irish Wedding Venues Through Fresh Eyes: An Honest First Impression
I will be honest: I am only getting started with Irish venues after years of weddings in Australia. Here is what has genuinely impressed me so far, and what I look for as a hair and makeup artist.

I want to be honest with you from the first line: after years of working on weddings in Australia, I am still in the early chapters of working in Irish wedding venues.
I could pretend otherwise, but I would rather you hear it from me. What I can tell you is this: the venues I have seen and worked in so far have genuinely stopped me in my tracks, and I say that as someone who has worked in some stunning Australian settings.
So this is not a definitive guide written from a decade of Irish weddings. It is an honest first impression from a bridal artist seeing these spaces with fresh eyes, along with what I have learned to look for when it comes to your hair, makeup and morning.
What has impressed me most
The character. Irish venues have a depth of history and personality that you simply cannot manufacture. Stone walls, old gardens, grand country houses and light that photographers dream about.
The warmth of the teams has stood out too. The coordinators and staff I have met so far care deeply about their couples, and that makes a real difference to how a morning runs.
And the variety within a short drive of Wexford is remarkable. Coastal hotels, elegant country houses, rustic barns and castle settings, all within an easy journey of each other.

What I look for as a hair and makeup artist
Every artist sees a venue differently. Where you might see a beautiful ceremony space, I am quietly noting the things that shape your morning.
The details that matter most to me:
- Natural light near a window for makeup application
- Enough space for the bridal party to get ready comfortably
- A getting-ready room close to where everyone is staying
- Sensible access and parking for kit and early arrivals
- A coordinator who communicates clearly about timings
The good news is that most Irish venues I have come across so far tick these boxes beautifully. Where something is trickier, it is almost always solvable with a little planning.
Irish weather, honest advice
Australian weddings taught me how to make hair and makeup last through serious heat. Irish weddings ask something different: softness that survives a sea breeze and makeup that looks beautiful in softer, changeable light.
This is where technique matters more than products. Skin-like makeup that is built in thin layers photographs beautifully in Irish light, and hairstyles with proper structure hold their shape even when the weather has other ideas.

A growing list, and an invitation
My list of Irish venues is growing with every wedding, and I will keep sharing honest notes here as it does. If you are still choosing your venue, I am always happy to tell you what I know so far, or what I would ask.
I am based in Adamstown, County Wexford, with travel within 30 km included in my bridal experiences. I work throughout Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny, Carlow, Wicklow and Dublin, with an overnight stay the night before for Dublin and longer-distance weddings.
If your venue is somewhere new to me, even better. There is nothing I enjoy more than arriving somewhere beautiful for the first time.
